seishirou

Because the Sakurazukamori are supposed to love and cherish nothing, they are taken from their families as babies so that the bonds of family do not form. It's a process of dehumanization, of turning them into emotionless killers instead of mother-clinging adolescents. This very thing happened to Seishirou, and he never got to see his mother because he was too young to remember her when he was taken away.

When Seishirou was 9, he was allowed to see his mother for the first time (to read a text of Seishirou's story of the time he saw his mother, go here). Seishirou describes her as girl like, always giggling. Her face was beautiful, and that's why Seishirou decided that he loved her: her white face, dark red lips, and black hair. He was told by Setsuka that he would be the one to kill her, and she seemed delighted to tell him this news. The most surprising thing that she told Seishirou, however, is that she loved him. By his reaction, it's obvious that Seishirou had never before given a thought to the concept of love, and couldn't understand the emotion of it. But he accepted it, nonetheless.

The most disturbing part of their meeting was when Setsuka bit Seishirou on the finger to draw blood, though he felt no pain. When the blood had been drawn, she tasted it, telling him that his blood was delicious, and she loved the smell of it in the air. The end with a kiss, and another 'I love you' from his mother. Setsuka was definitely a disturbed woman, and some have speculated that her attraction to Seishirou, her son, was less like a mother and son, and more of a lovers attraction.
